Cheap Summer time killer ideas for kids (and adults)

There are a LOT of ideas that we need to do this summer to help us pass the time we are stuck inside cause it's too hot.  So I'm gonna put some of them here to share them with you, and remember them myself.

The first is to let them paint.  The LOVE to paint, and I love how they turn out.  Soo, I've kept some cardboard off the back of some notebooks that I had, and I'm going to let them paint them.  And then I think I'm going to turn them into a little art book for them.  Some blank paper, some yarn, and a hole punch, and they'd have little sketch books that they can doodle in - or paint in, etc - whenever they get bored.  It'd be easy, and cheap, and super fast.  And it'd give them something to hold on to and use over and over. :)

Then I've made them glitter calming jars.  You can find the instructions here: Calming Jars
They are fast, and easy to throw together.  And they are great for the kids that get over excited.  Now, after making them myself let me give you a couple tips.  Get jars that are a little bigger - like a plastic 1 litter bottle.  Use the entire bottle of glitter glue, and some regular glitter.  We used super fine glitter, and while it DOES work, it isn't as interesting to watch.  So I'm going to add some regular glitter to them which will be more fun.  If you are using a smaller jar (we bought some tiny jars that they can hold in their hands) you don't have to use as much glitter glue and glitter. It's just an experiment at that point, so play around with it until it falls like you want.

Then I'm thinking about making bouncy balls with the girls.  Found the way to do it online, and it doesn't seem too hard, so we might try it sometime soon.  Check it out:
See, looks pretty easy and fun.  So we might do that one day this summer too.  They love bouncy balls, so it'd be fun to be able to make our own in whatever color we wanted to make.  So we will just have to see what happens I guess.

Then I found this recipe for really cool sparkly goo, lol.  Sounds like it would be fun to play with.  So I think we might give it a try sometime soon. Not hard at all, and it could be HOURS of fun. :) Check it out: Galaxy Slime.  I think we'd have a blast, and it'd be something we could do indoors and not be bored out of our minds.

My girlies LOVE to make stuff they can actually wear.  Like bracelets, necklaces, headbands, and everything in between.  And they've been asking for some of the loom bracelet kits and stuff.  Well, I've been too broke to get them one, BUT I did find this really awesome idea from the Kids Activity Blog (there will be a few links from there, so I won't say it again.) on how to make loom bracelets without the loom.  It uses two pencils and a few s clips.  Check it out: Rainbow loom bracelets without the loom.  Seriously LOVE this idea.  You can buy a bag of the loops for pretty cheap, and we could make a TON with that bag without having to spend the money on two looms for the girls.  SO yeah, gonna try that soon.

Now, I LOVE things that we can use around the house.  And we are always looking for little lights to use for reading at night, or when the power goes out (as it tends to do at least once a year).  So when I saw this post I was super excited.  It's for paper lanterns.  Now, I wouldn't use an actual candle of course, but you can buy the battery powered ones for pretty cheap.  I LOVE THEM.  And they are SO PRETTY.  Check it out: Paper punch lanterns

And like I mentioned before, they LOVE to paint, but this craft: Painting over crayon Is super exciting.  It adds the extra step, which would keep them occupied for longer.  And we could do it with a TON of different pages.  So that will be something we will definetly do this summer.  And it's good too, cause we always have crayons, coloring pages, and paint in the house.  So we could always have that to do.  Pretty awesome huh?

And that's a handful of the things I plan on doing with my girlies this summer.  If you guys try any of them, post how they turned out in the comments!  I wanna see!  And I'm sure I'll post pics/ posts about how ours turned out so you all can see.  Hope it helps give you some cheap and easy ideas for things to do with your kids this summer. Summer always seems to be so long when you don't have things to do, so this gives me a lot of ideas to do with my girlies to help keep us all occupied.

Now, today was shot day, and I can feel the side effects kicking in, so I'm gonna turn on some crazy TV on Netflix and lay down before they good and kick my butt.
