Learn to be grateful

You know, I've come to learn a few things.  The first is that EVERYONE deals with depression and fear at some point in their lives.   EVERYONE.  I don't care if they seem to be the happiest person on the outside, they've dealt with it at some point.  The thing that is the hardest is coming to terms with that.  It is OK to feel depressed, to fear things, and to be sad about the way things are going.  BUT, it is NOT OK to sit and do nothing about them.  It is NOT OK to sit and complain about them every day, and do nothing at all to fix them.

Learn to be grateful for the things you have, because somewhere in the world people are fighting just to have the basics.

Learn to be grateful for how healthy you are (even if it's not 100%) because somewhere in the world (probably right around the corner from you) someone is fighting for their life.

Learn to be grateful for the people in your life - even if they are your worst enemy - because they are either teaching you a lesson of some sort (like patience) or they are there to support you through everything you're going through.

Learn to be grateful for that messy house if you're getting to spend time with your children or loved ones, because there are people in the world - some in your neighborhood - that don't get to do that.

Learn to be grateful for every breath because somewhere someone is taking their last.

Learn to be grateful for  memories, because some people don't have those great memories with friends and family.

Learn to be grateful for the days where everything is going good, because some people have very very few of those.

Learn to be grateful for the pillow you fall asleep on at night, because somewhere in the world people are sleeping with dirt for a bed and a rock or grass for a pillow.

Learn to be grateful for everything in your life.  EVERYTHING.  Because someone somewhere in the world would give everything they have to get the chance to have some of it.

I'm 31 years old.  And I admit that I haven't always looked at life with the greatest of outlooks.  I've had a lot happen to me.  I'm fighting with MS.  I still have moments where it feels like the world is out to get me and there's nothing I can do to stop it.

But instead of sitting in that dark place, I get up, and I do something about it.  I do whatever I can to fix the problem instead of letting it beat me.

And I've learned that there are things in life you can do absolutely nothing about.  And instead of fretting about the, I've started to learn to do what I can, and then let it go.  I've learned to "Let Go, and Let God" or whatever higher power you believe in.

Life really does start to look different when you stop focusing on the bad things and start looking for the good.

So I am issuing a challenge to everyone that reads this:
EVERY NIGHT, BEFORE YOU GO TO BED, WRITE DOWN SOMETHING GOOD THAT HAPPENED TO YOU THAT DAY.
Doesn't have to be anything HUGE or AWESOME.  It just needs to be something good.  Something like "I made my kids laugh", "I helped my spouse", or "I cleaned X room today".  Just something positive.  And I would LOVE it if you'd share some of the good things that happened to you with me and the other readers.  Instead of focusing on the bad things in life, or letting the things that are going wrong get us down - focusing on the GOOD things in life helps you see that life isn't as bad as you might have thought.

I read this article today, and wanted to share it with you.  It's a perfect example of what I'm talking about.  And some of the examples she gives are wonderful ideas of things to do each day to help you be more grateful for your life and those in it.

Ok, I'm cleaning my girls room up right now and just needed a quick break.
Thank you for reading.
Thank you for being here
And thank you for being you.
The world needs more of that.

LATER TATER!
