There are some people who just totally amuse me. Mostly people who don't get that we live in a bigger city, and that crime happens. Maybe i'm just naive about the whole thing, or just really don't care. I refuse to live my life in fear, period, and if i focused on all the negative that's what would happen. I've accepted that we live in a bigger city. I've accepted that we live in a part of the city that isn't known for being particularly safe. But i have yet to feel UNSAFE in the apartment i live in.
I've lived in a lot of different types of places. Different apartments, neighborhoods, housing editions, and even hotels. And at each and every one of them, including the ones that people labled as "good" places to live, something BAD happened. Between cars being stolen or broken into, houses being burglarized, and people being shot/stabbed/beaten, shit is gonna happen. You can't control it, you can't stop it. All you can really do is keep your head down, make sure you're as safe as you can be, and live life as best you can.
There are people complaining about the complex we live in. Just a day or two ago, someone in the complex across the way was shot and killed. Yeah, welcome to a bigger city, shit like that happens. Yeah, it's scary, but not to the point that it's gonna terrify me. THey are complaining about it being loud at "all hours of the night" but they must go to bed before midnight, cause after midnight, it is QUIET out there. At least more quiet than most places i've ever lived. I went outside to take pics of the ecclipse when it happened not too long ago. Like 3 am or whatever. ANd there wasn't a single soul out there, it was so quiet that the wind in the trees was the only REAL noise, and i didn't really see anybody. A few cars drove by, but even they weren't loud or whatever. They are complaining that their cars have been broken into multiple times. THAT i find amusing. If you leave something in your car in sight worth stealing, chances are it's gonna get stolen. If you drive a car that's too expensive on the lot without a car alarm, chances are it's gonna get stolen. I mean, seriously. That's kind of a DUH moment. Yeah, our tv got stolen when we first moved in, but that was because we left the door unlocked and the house without someone watching it. Since that, we've added a lock to the front door, and we make sure that we don't leave the windows and stuff open where people can see in at the things we have. Not a difficult thing to do at all. If you know how to keep your head down and not piss people off, know how to follow a lease, and know how to keep to yourself and keep yourself safe, then apartments are fine. If you can't do that, go pay a crapload for a gated community and never leave, because just leaving your front door you can get shot in a bigger city.
Yesterday i took Desiree to the zoo for like an hour. It was CRAZY crazy out there. I think they broke a record for number of people who visited in one day. It was wall to wall to wall people. But she got to see the elephants again. ANd i actually got pics of them this time. Then we went to go see Tangled. It was cute. Glad Desi sat through it, lol.
Today, we are gonna go for a walk downtown before it gets too hot. Then i'm gonna come home and run some paperwork over to the DHS since i've forgotten about it for a while and it's like two weeks late :( Then i'm gonna work on the house and try to at least get Ivys bedroom finished so i can spray it all down and kill off all the bugs. At least that's the plan.
For now, i need to go chill cause i'm getting pissy. Ruben told us to get ready to go like an hour and a half ago, and then his friend called and he's been on the phone ever since, and he's not ready, and he's not paying attention to anything at all, etc. It's frustrating.
Oh, and HAPPY ST. PATTY'S DAY!!! :)
