Just need to gripe a minute.......

There is something that's been bugging me for a while now about people I keep reading about online.  People who make STUPID amounts of money (compared to the national average), but are BITCHING because they "can't afford the bills".  So yeah, lets see......

If you didn't live in a 3 bedroom, 2 bath house that costs you 1500-2000 a month in rent/ mortgage payments when you only have Mom and Dad and the baby.  2 bed, 1 bath, 550-600 a month. Cuts your payments by MORE THAN HALF.

If you didn't drive that brand new car that costs you 500-800 a month in car payments with another 200-500 a month in insurance.  Buy a USED car, have it paid off in a couple years, and only pay 300-400 a month on the car payment and another 100 in insurance.  Again, saves you a TON each year.

If you didn't eat out all the damn time, or take crazy trips every summer, you'd have extra too.

My husband and I make less than 30,000 a year.  We have two paid off cars, live in a nice two bed, bath and a half apartment, and have two children.  And we still have extra luxuries that some people don't.  And not because we are abusing the system, like some people think we are.  Yes, we have food stamps, but that doesn't make us bad people.  Yes, I'm a stay at home mom instead of working full time.  We did the math, and it would cost us more for me to work now than I'd be able to make in our area with the jobs that are actually hiring.  So back off!  Between the cost of childcare, extra gas for the car to get me too and from work, and replacing the food stamps we receive, I'd have to make 2000 + a month just to keep us where we are RIGHT NOW.  Add to that, me fighting MS and not being able to get up off the couch for more than a few minutes some days, a full time job is kind of out of the question.  MAYBE once Desiree starts school full time and I've got those hours to work each day, MAYBE I'll get a job.  But until then, it's not worth it to me.

I just don't understand how people making all that money can bitch because they can't afford to pay the bills.  SO LOWER YOUR DAMN BILLS.  Don't send the children to private school.  Sell that second vacation home so you're not paying upkeep on it.  Don't buy the newest and most expensive car.  Live within your means, instead of trying to push it too far.  AND WHATEVER YOU DO, STOP USING YOUR CREDIT CARDS FOR ANYTHING OTHER THAN EMERGENCIES.  Credit card debt is the number one reason people are falling behind.  Paying one credit card with another one, only to realize that you can't keep robbing peter to pay paul and you're stuck.  Just don't do it.  Keep ONE credit card for emergencies - Like car trouble, home maintanance, missing work because you're sick or injured.  But for the love of god, stop going on 5000 dollar vacations with them and then spend the next 10 years paying it off!  UGH!

I just don't understand some people.  It doesn't make sense to me, and I doubt it ever will.

Maybe it's just because I made our household work this year with his actual bring home pay being right about 1000-1100 a month (yes with help of friends, but we only needed 200 extra a month - putting what I made our lives work on this last year at 1300 a month TOPS).  Maybe it just doesn't make sense to me because we were litterally at that verge of having everything taken away again because we couldn't afford it.  Guess it makes me a little more thankful for the things we do have.

Anyway, Moving on.

I wanted to say thank you to everyone who was there for us this last year.  For everyone who came out of the woodwork to send us a little extra money when we were about to be evicted.  For those who came up with odd jobs we could work to make that money.  And for the few that just donated it to us, with the understanding that we will do whatever we can to help if the need ever occurs in the future.  We couldn't have done it without you, and I am truly blessed to have you in my life. :)

LOVE YOU.
