Plus some rambling, I'm sure, lol.
Today being the first OFFICIAL day of summer (since I spent the last 8 days doing a little bit of EVERYTHING and haven't really been able to enjoy the no school thing) I spent the majority of today scouring the net for ideas to do with the girls this summer. Things that won't be too expensive, but are still fun and take more than two minutes to get done.
There is, of course, the zoo with our zoofriends pass, and we've already got plans to use it a FEW times with different people. This Thursday we are going with Brita and her two kids. Then the 6th of July we are going with Brinna and her mom and brother. Then I'd said something to Ivy's friend Alyssa and her mom about taking her a time or two. Then we are gonna try to get together with katana and David and their mom. SOO, that'll be good. HOT, but good, lol.
Then we will do picnics at the parks or the water canal. The girls always love being able to do that kind of stuff, so we will do that again. Get there earlyish and play till lunch time, then eat and come home. Great time killer, and doesn't get TOO hot too fast that way.
And then for the TOO HOT days, I've found a few ideas of things to do with them around the house. Video games, and computer games, and board games of course, but there are a few other things we are gonna attempt to do together that I think will be awesome.
Homemade Lip Gloss - Using vasoline and kool aid and putting it into a cute little container creates a really awesome lip gloss that they can flavor however they want.
Name bead bracelets - got some really cute pearlesant (sp?) beads and some good string and we will do that one day with some other cute beads.
Handprint art - construction paper, sponge brushes, and some cheap paint and we can create a TON of different art projects. Might turn them into a cute little book or something to show family and friends. :) Who knows, lol. We will see. So far, we are gonna do Owls, Peacocks, and Hearts. Painted Rock Pets - Again, cheap paint and sponge brushes with me painting eyes and a mouth on them. And we can get the rocks from the lake, or down by the river, or by the water canal for FREE, lol.
Word Memory Game - Throwing some learning into the fun that is memory. Gonna use sight words for Desi, like Mom, Cat, Dog, Dad, etc. So she will have to learn the words as well as match them. And then gonna use bigger sight words that Ivy will need to remember for her. Should be fun to make them, and then let them play with them whenever. Might even get some contact paper and make sure they aren't super easy to tear up, ya know?
Pine Cone Bird Feeders - Peanut butter, bird seed, string, and pine cones we can find all over our apartment propery and we've got something we can do a COUPLE times. And then hang them out on the patio so we can bird watch over the summer. :)
Homemade Pladough - using three ingredients (well, 5 if you add color and scent). It's baking soda, cornstarch, water, food coloring, and essential oils for scent. Should be interesting. And we can make a few different colors for pretty darn cheap.
Mailbox Marathon - which is basically writing letters, drawing pictures, etc and then putting them in envelopse and mailing them out to everyone we love. Be a good surprise for them. Got a few people who i KNOW would love to get something from the girls and I over the summer. So gonna set the money back to get a whole handful of stamps a couple times this summer so we can mail it all out. :)
And that's what I've got so far. Gonna scour pinterest and see if I can find some other ideas. And then ask other moms and stuff. Just gotta keep it cheap cause we are gonna be BROKE again this summer, lol. I'm honestly kinda ready for Desi to start school so I can work during the school year and save up some money for us to actually get to do stuff next summer.
But seriously - if you guys know of anything else I can do for SUPER cheap, please let me know!! I need all the help I can get cause they are old enough that they get bored WAY easier than they have in the past, lol. We can't just sit around the house all day and expect them not to drive me absolutly bonkers! So any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated, lol.
And I know we are planning at least one good family vacation. Probably to Six Flags over Texas. And if everything works out right, we will take a second one to Silver Dollar City too. Just have to see what happens with the second one though. Should be an interesting year, lol.
Well, I just needed to get this out of my head and on paper (or in a blog post, lol) so that I didn't forget any of it. Bout to go fininsh the tea and relax again for a while. Ruben will be up soon, and then we will do a stupid easy dinner (Sirloin Burger soup over Instant Mashed Potatoes). Gonna be a good summer. I can feel it. :)
